Baking Express: A Local Cake Delivery & Community Platform

Overview

Baking Express is a unique cake delivery app connecting customers with local bakers—both professionals and passionate home bakers. The platform not only facilitates cake orders but also fosters a community where users can share their love for baking and launch their own businesses.

As a UX Designer & UX Researcher, I worked on this project from concept to prototype, conducting user research, analyzing competitors, and designing intuitive user flows and interfaces.

Process & Execution

  1. Empathize – Understanding User Needs

I conducted a survey to analyze food delivery habits and pastry consumption, discovering that 70% of users order food weekly, and 60% eat pastries weekly. During this research, I identified a key gap: there was no dedicated platform for homemade cake delivery. I also conducted competitive research to evaluate indirect competitors in the market.

2. Define – Identifying the Problem

I identified the core problem: there was no dedicated platform for pastry lovers to order homemade cakes, and home bakers had limited opportunities to sell their creations. I highlighted user needs and pain points such as customers wanting easy access to unique pastries and home bakers struggling to reach their audience.

I created personas to represent the key users: Pastry Lovers who seek unique, local cakes, and Home Bakers who need a platform to manage orders and grow their business. I then mapped out their user journeys, from browsing and ordering cakes for the pastry lover to signing up, receiving orders, and delivering cakes for the home baker.

3. Ideate – Crafting the Solution

I mapped out the key user flows for ordering, selling, and browsing, ensuring a smooth and intuitive navigation experience throughout the app.

Wireframing

I designed the mobile app’s architecture to ensure a smooth and intuitive experience, and created low-fidelity wireframes to test and refine the layout concepts.

4. Prototype – Bringing Ideas to Life

UI Design

I designed a high-fidelity prototype in Figma with a clean and inviting UI, incorporating a cohesive visual identity. I ensured the design was visually appealing, on-brand, and user-friendly, enhancing the overall user experience.

4. Test – Refining the Experience

I validated the designs through user feedback and iteration, making sure to refine the ordering flow and improve the visibility of home bakers based on the insights I gathered. I focused on ensuring that the platform was not only accessible but also engaging and functional for all users.
